　　小说里周伯通说过几次如果王重阳活到现在如何如何，比如几小时拿下其他四绝啊，N招搞定金轮啊，然而是不那么可信的，毕竟小说里王重阳实际上是周伯通的师傅，而历史上的周伯通对王重阳也是十分崇拜的。
　　金庸让周伯通说这些话，很可能是出于对周伯通人物性格的考虑，而非是在给王重阳武学水准定位。也就是说，周伯通是在吹牛。
　　论据1：和其余四绝论剑需要七天七夜，差距微乎其微
　　从王重阳与其他四绝共论剑七天七夜方能夺下天下第一的名号来看，在一论时期，王重阳与其余四绝的差距应与学成了左右互搏与九阴真经的周伯通和其他四绝的差距相似，略胜一点点而已，没准还要更小。
　　比如说神雕中，金轮法王与裘千仞对决要一天一夜绝出胜负，而这二位都是定位在与四绝十分接近的水准上的，间接说明了一论时期王重阳与其余四绝的差异。

　　考虑到王重阳死得早的原因之一是年龄比较大，习武时间较长，和其他四绝相比占了年龄上的优势，而且华山论剑后其绝技先天功已传给南帝，因此即便他没有早死再活个几十年，恐怕和同期的其余四绝相比也只是强一点点，和周伯通差不多。
