　　段延庆本来是大理太子，后因大理内乱，被奸臣杨义贞谋国后流亡出外。
　　因其身份，受到多方追杀，在湖广道上遇到强仇围攻，虽然用奋力应战而尽歼诸敌，最后却身中无数刀伤，不但面目全毁，双腿残废，连说话都不能了。
　　从此面上木无表情，口不能言，腿不能走，只能以腹语传意，以拐杖点地走路，连吃饭也只能用手扳开嘴巴，像寄信那样把食物投下去。
