儒林外史汤奉汤知县的性格特点分析

汤奉存在于清代吴敬梓创作的长篇小说《儒林外史》中，是典型的贪官污吏。
书中这样描绘汤知百县：次日早堂，头一起带进来的是度一个偷鸡的积贼，知县怒道：‘你这奴才，在我手里犯过几次，总不改业，打也不怕，今日如何是好？’因取过朱笔来，在他脸上写了‘偷鸡贼’三个字：取一面知枷枷了，把他偷的鸡，头向后，尾向前，捆在他头上，枷了出去。才出得县门，那鸡屁股里喇的一声，屙出一泡稀屎来，道从额颅上淌到鼻子上，胡子粘成一片，滴到枷上。两边看的人多笑。
第二起叫将老师父上来，大骂一顿‘大胆狗奴’，重责三十板，取一面大枷，把那五十斤牛肉回都堆在枷上，脸和颈子箍得紧紧的，只剩的两个眼睛，在县前示众。天气又热，枷到第二日，牛肉生蛆，第三日，呜呼死了。

3、说明了这些官吏就凭藉科举得意，升官发财，作威作福；而贪狠、蛮横则成了他们的共同特性。以写实主义描绘各类人士对于功名富贵的不同表现，真实的揭示人性被腐蚀的过程和原因，从而对当时吏治的腐败、科举的弊端礼教的虚伪等进行了深刻的批判和嘲讽。
朝廷有禁杀耕牛的禁令，汤奉不问因由，竟然将做牛肉生意的回民老师父活活枷死，闹得群众义愤填膺，鸣锣罢市。
事发后，按察司不仅没有处罚汤奉，反而将受害的回民问成奸发挟制官府，依律枷责之罪。如此清廉的知县，一年下来居然也搜刮了八千两银子。官吏们贪赃枉法，而在八股科举之下，土豪劣绅也恣意横行。
《儒林外史》并没有一个或几个贯穿全书的主角，也没有起讫完整的情节。
全书无主干，仅驱使各种人物，行列而来答，事与其来俱起，亦与其去俱讫。
