　　范进中举之后为什么会发疯？
　　范进一生苦苦追求，从20岁到54岁，长期感受到世态炎凉，清楚地知道剥削阶级拥有什么样的特权，几十年极端贫困的生活及卑下的地位，让他对中举梦寐以求。他不顾一切地参加考试，是盼着一旦梦想成真，一切苦难就会过去，他将拥有一切。中举后他心理上无法承受这巨大的喜悦和变化，因此喜极而疯。这种现象正说明封建科举制度对读书人的毒害之深，从而揭露了科举制度的罪恶。
　　再说说这个制度的阶段和层级设置，科举制度层级阶段简单粗暴地分为：
　　1、童生刚开始学习的小孩或者初学者，无论老幼皆可参加，相比于现在的小学生限制年龄要宽大得多。
　　2、秀才最低级的院试考试合格者称为秀才，也叫相公，不知道这个相公和古代女子口中的相公还有打麻将少一张牌所说的相公有何不同，有待考究。
　　3、举人秀才应三年一度的乡试，合格者称为举人，范进就是这个学历。
　　4、贡士举人参加在北京的会试，合格者称为贡士。
　　5、进士贡士参加在皇宫宫殿殿试，合格者称为进士。
　　6、探花殿试第三名称探花。7、榜眼殿试第二名称榜眼。8、状元殿试第一名称状元，一般由皇帝御笔钦点，故集荣耀与成就于一身，成为古代学子梦寐以求的结果，陈世美就是宋朝皇帝御笔钦点的状元而且同时被选为驸马，属于典型的贫下中农一步登天的案例。
　　这样一来，诸位是不是已经能够大致判断出举人的水平了吧，所以，范进中举所中的举人大致相当于现在的高中生程度。但各位看官莫笑，这种比较只是一个噱头聊以解闷而已，由于科举制度和现在的教育制度有着天壤之别，所以相互比较也就无甚意义，重要的一点是由于古人识字学习者较少，文化程度普遍低下，能有点成就者就更少，故古代的学子能够中得个举人那已经是很不错的了，中举后可以免除徭役、或被推荐直接当官、见到一般地方官员比如县太爷的这些都不用下跪，非官似官各种好处也都蜂拥而来，已经不再是普通的老百姓，而成为一种准特权阶层了，只有穷秀才，没有穷举人说的就是这个意思，远不是现在的高中生甚至大学生可以比的。
